A traffic collision that killed a bicyclist on Volcano Highway (Route 11) near the upper entrance of Keaau, by Keaau Shopping Center, has closed Hilo-bound lanes of traffic, police confirmed early Friday afternoon.
Hilo-bound traffic on Volcano Highway has been diverted into the Volcano-bound lanes on an alternating basis while police investigate, police said.
Capt. Samuel Jelsma of Puna Patrol Division said at about 1 p.m. the lane closures will be in effect “at least an hour or so, possibly more.”
Details of the crash and the identity of the victim were not immediately available, Jelsma said.
